Australia’s department store, David Jones are no strangers to being leaders in instigating Australia’s fashion trends. Sourcing and buying from leading labels all over the world, as well as strongly supporting local Australian fashion, the Autumn/Winter 14 edit is diverse.
2014 is looking promising with new overseas labels joining the department store such as Carven, Phillip Lim and American outfitters Brooks Brothers in 2014.
Not forgetting the Australian designers, and realising the gap in the market for accessories, David Jones have teamed up with Australian labels leading the way in accessories with Camilla, Ginger and Smart, Zimmermann all producing lines for David Jones. There will also be a focus on fine jewellery with ex Chanel PR executive, Susie Stenmark launching the Stenmark collection, as well as a line from Jade Jagger.
Donna Player, David Jones Group Executive of Merchandise enthuses about AW14 collections stating, “Our edit takes in up-to-the-minute must-haves from both here and abroad. Reworked classics such as the smoking jacket, wide-leg trouser and the essential LBD complement cutting edge dresses, precision tailoring and the new bold prints,”
So what are the top trends in store for AW14 in David Jones?
Think Jewel Tones (think palettes of pink, tourmaline, ruby and intense sapphire blue with Ginger & Smart, Hugo Boss & Scanlan & Theodore), Deconstructed Glamour (a polished look with a youthful influence, it’s about cuts, intriguing detail and a predominantly black and white palette, the influence is showing in Christopher Esber, Dion Lee & Kym Ellery) Prints (Houndstooth, pinstripes and checks as well as lace (Lover, Willow and Dolce & Gabbana) and more opulent prints with Camilla & Carla Zampatti doing snakeskin), Denim decoded (think a nod to 90’s style jeans, Rag and Bone, Current Elliot, J Brand, Nobody Denim and Paige ), Grey (smoky charcoal, granite and soft dove are found in Camilla and Marc, Carl Kapp, Victoria Beckham and in Witchery and Saba)
